Seven experienced media organizations from various European countries, including Časoris, have come together to contribute to the creation and strengthening of quality journalism training young journalists.
One of the results of the project ‘Youth for Media: Strengthening Local Media with the Help of Young Journalists’ (acronym YoCoJoin) is a training program for young journalists to report on topics of local importance.
Each partner will develop an initiative for so-called youth community journalism based on local characteristics. Časoris is participating with its mentoring program ‘Časoris Young Journalists.
The mentoring program is open to 30 children and young people, who will receive training with experienced journalists and have their contributions published in Časoris. The youth will gain experience and knowledge about the importance of local journalism participating in creating news in areas that interest them.
Over a period of two years, together with partners from the Netherlands, Malta, Ireland, Hungary, Belgium, and Serbia, we will include 210 young journalists in the training program.
Institute Časoris has extensive experience in mentoring young journalists and conducting workshops in the field of media literacy.
In this process, we, the partners, will also develop professionally and exchange knowledge among ourselves. Our aim is to include local media in the activities, in addition to training the next generation of quality journalists. We will invite them to participate.
Participants will receive access to online materials and a tutorial, which will serve as a solid foundation for training young people in journalism. The goal is for local media from various countries to connect and develop cooperation in the field of children’s and youth journalism.
The YoCoJoin project is also an effort for sustainable and strong local journalism. We believe that our activities will increase the potential of local journalism and its importance for democracy in the EU.
We will conclude the project with a conference in August 2025. The aim of the conference is to encourage the involvement of young people in journalism through the partner network and to present best practices and materials for training young journalists.
The YoCoJoin project opens new perspectives for young people across Europe, who will become the driving force of local journalism, while also contributing to media literacy and the sustainability of local media.
